From street food to eco printing to rare vintage finds - Cologne’s creative markets show how a city can really celebrate its market culture with a combination of lively atmosphere, sustainable ideas and a love of style. Wondering which markets you should mark in your diary? We’ve got the answers.

We all know Cologne can do second-hand markets. But if you’re looking for something creative and a bit different, 2025 has a whole range of events to choose from that take the concept a step further. From the district of Ehrenfeld to the neighbourhood of Mülheim, from organic wine to original accessories – these markets showcase the diverseness of Cologne’s creative scene.

Bazar de Nuit – a nighttime flea market turns ten

If you think Thermos flasks and Sunday mornings when you hear “second-hand market”, you haven’t been to Bazar de Nuit. This creative market transforms the Odonien grounds into a veritable vintage festival.

What you can expect: Live DJs, food trucks and auctions – and no having to get up early.  

Highlight: They’ve got some special things planned for the tenth anniversary in 2025. Besides jewellery and clothes galore, they’ll be music acts and lots of space for night owls, collectors and makers.

Summer edition: Sunday, 24 August 2025, 3 to 10pm

Season-closing event: Saturday, 20 September 2025, 2 to 10pm followed by the after-bazar party until 8am

Re(h)Sale – stalls of style

If you’re a fan of vintage but not of the standard type of flea market, you need to put a big circle in your calendar around the date for the Re(h)sale vintage market.

What you can expect: Sustainable consumption meets urban lifestyle. Re(h)sale is not your standard flea market; it’s a curated vintage market that offers more than just fashion. A meeting place, coffee bar, music venue and source of inspiration rolled into one. It takes place at Zum Scheuen Reh, a bar that provides the perfect backdrop for this mix of laid-back and bustling vibes. You’ll find selected second-hand treasures, trendy garments, accessories and the odd oddity you won’t want to put down.

Highlights: Live DJs, ice-cream stall, fresh coffee from Hin&Weg, tattoos if you feel the sudden urge to get one and “Blink Tooth” gems if you’re looking for something a bit more extravagant.

Markt für gutes Leben – taking sustainability to new heights

When summer starts to draw to a close, the Markt für gutes Leben (literally “market for a good life”) will mark the end of the season by once again bringing together the things that make sustainability enjoyable: creative ideas and regional products. The first weekend of September will see Cologne’s Südbrücke bridge set the (outdoor) stage for the event, with views across the Rhine and the city providing the backdrop.

What you can expect: The special thing about this market is how it combines a commitment to quality and sustainability with a festival feeling. Around 80 exhibitors will be presenting a wide range of fair clothing, natural toiletries, fine vegan foods and clever everyday products for a sustainable lifestyle. There’s also vegetarian and vegan street food, organic wine and soft drinks – all chosen for their contribution to environmental and animal welfare.

The market will also feature workshops, solution-focused talks, a clothes swap, a children’s zone and musical entertainment, with the Südbrücke bridge providing the perfect setting for it all. The November market will take place in the cosy Patenhalle in the Ehrenfeld district.

Highlight: The fabulous organic food!

At Sunday Famday in Bürgerhaus Stollwerck, you’ll find second-hand, food, handmade goods and workshop stalls side by side. It’s a real family fest in the heart of the Südstadt district. The market, held roughly once every three months, is a place for families to browse, swap and explore – all based on the “reduce & reuse” concept.

What you can expect: The main attraction is the large children’s second-hand market with toys, books and clothes, aimed at making responsible shopping a fun experience. With workshops, crafts corners, crepes and a coffee van, this creative market is great for young and old alike.

Highlight: The Zero Waste e.V. clothes swap is a big favourite with visitors. You can take up to five garments in good condition to swap for up to five new ones – a simple, sustainable way of giving your wardrobe a makeover.

SIP&THRIFT – a Sunday market with a touch of subculture 

SIP & THRIFT offers that perfect Sunday vibe – right in the middle of Ehrenfeld. And 13 July 2025 will again see the beer garden at Club Bahnhof Ehrenfeld transformed into a place to peruse, chill and enjoy the community spirit.

What you can expect: An added fun factor courtesy of DJ sets, tooth gems and flash tattoos for those spontaneous moments, coffee from Café Mobil, chilled drinks and street food. Less a bustling market and more a relaxed gathering – this is an afternoon you won’t want to end.

Highlight: The club is celebrating its 15th anniversary. With its mix of club nights, concerts, readings and local culture, the CBE has been a defining element of Cologne’s cultural landscape since 2010.

Vintage Market at The Frmee – street style meets screen printing

The Vintage Market at concept store The Frmee is the perfect opportunity to unearth second-hand gems and out-of-the-ordinary accessories.

What you can expect: Selected retailers like Philip’s Finds, Uncle Luke’s Vintagebox and Different Approach present carefully curated clothing and accessories from Europe and the US.

Highlight: The screen-printing station, where you can get your creative juices flowing and print your own T-shirt or jute bag. And then there’s the music, cold brew and homemade banana bread from Stube.

When? The last one of these urban shopping events took place on 27 and 28 June 2025. There’s no information yet on whether there’ll be another one.

local.cologne – locals & favourite brands

A creative market with a festival format – welcome to local.cologne!

What you can expect: Around 30 local labels, designers and initiatives that come together at a factory courtyard in Cologne’s Mülheim neighbourhood in a celebration of urban culture, fashion, art and sustainability. The event’s organised by the “koelnistkool” collective, who’ve been bringing the local creative scene together for years.

Extra treat: Obstmarkt. The name means “fruit market” but don’t be fooled. There aren’t any apples or bananas here but you will find designer pieces, social projects, vintage gems and new ideas to enhance social togetherness. The market is held several times per year and the organisers always post the latest dates on their social media channels. The last local.cologne was on 28 June 2025. 

When? Once a year, usually in summer

TRASH OR TRÈS CHIC?- That is the question at Carlsgarten 

Even the ultimate flea market find can leave you wondering, “Is it trash or is it très chic?” And that’s exactly what inspired the name of this market in the Carlsgarten garden in front of Cologne’s Schauspiel Köln theatre.

What you can expect: Everything a bargain hunter’s/vintage fan’s/sustainability enthusiast’s heart could desire – perfect for a good browse.

Highlight of the day: There’s an eco printing workshop from 3 to 5pm, where you can learn how to make natural prints and dyes using plants you’ve gathered and simple techniques. Places are limited but you can sign up on the Schauspiel Köln website.

The combination of music, browsing and a responsibility-minded gathering makes this creative market a format that’s relaxed and inspiring at the same time.

When? The last event took place on 29 June 2025. There’s no information yet on whether there’ll be another one.
