During the Christmas season, every corner of the city turns into its own little universe brimful with great food spots and cool vibes. These five markets reveal the different moods and moments that make winter in Cologne so special. And chances are, one of them will become your new favourite Christmas market.
1. Bumann & Sohn: a seasonal sprinkling of ho-ho hipness
We start at one of the city’s most popular bars. The Ehrenfeld Christmas Market at Bumann & Sohn breaks with every Advent cliché. Here, the Fatstreet Boys serve indulgent treats like chili cheese fries, while the Nomás Soul Kitchen food truck dishes up hearty burgers. And if you’re craving something sweet, Eisfeld has you covered with crêpes and waffles. Gift hunters will find everything from urban art and gin “with Wasser us Kölle” (which translates as “Cologne-style water”) to handmade jewellery.

Mon–Fri from 5 pm, Sat–Sun from 2 pm
Market stalls until 10 pm, mulled wine served until midnight.
2. Stadtgarten Christmas market: the Belgian Quarter all aglow
At the Stadtgarten Christmas market in the Belgian Quarter, each week brings a new selection of more than 60 craft and design businesses. Open until 23 December, it offers dozens of festive stalls to wander through, selling clothes and stationery, jewellery and toiletries. You’ll also find treats like Kiki Lento’s cinnamon rolls and vegan grill specialities from Die Vegane Fleischerei (vegan butchery), a Cologne favourite. Kids can enjoy a Theater SternKundt performance while the grown-ups sip white or red mulled wine from the Georg Forster vineyard. They’ll need to take it easy, though – at double the alcohol content of the usual offering, this wine is as strong as it is delicious.
Where? Venloer Str. 40, 50672 Cologne
When? 14 November–23 December 2025
Mon–Fri 4–9:30 pm, Sat & Sun 12–9:30 pm

3. Blackfoot Beach: Christmas at the beach
Christmas at the beach! If you can’t afford the plane ticket – or prefer not to fly for environmental reasons (good on you!) – just stay in Cologne. The yuletide vibe returns to the Winterland at Blackfoot Beach, whisking visitors away to a fairytale world. Grab some candy floss, kale or a hot cocktail and settle in by one of the fire pits. And if you’re in the mood for a bit more action, you can fly across the lake on a sledge or try your hand at archery.
Where? Am Fühlinger See, Stallagsbergweg 1, 50769 Cologne
When? 5–7, 12–15 and 19–21 December 2025, each day from 3–9 pm.
4. The smallest Christmas market in Cologne: mulled wine for world peace
The smallest Christmas market in Cologne runs under the motto “mulled wine for a better world”. You’ll find it in Hellers Biergarten in the Volksgarten. Hot mulled wine, cold Kölsch, changing food options and live performances by local musicians are all part of the experience. But what really sets this market apart is its mission: it’s organised by KG Ponyhof, a self-described “different kind of carnival club” that champions diversity and fairness within Cologne’s traditional culture. For every mulled wine sold, 50 cents go directly to the performing artists. All remaining proceeds are donated to charity, mainly to projects fighting hunger and improving access to education in developing countries. And by the way: everyone working at Cologne’s smallest Christmas market does so on a voluntary basis.
Where? Hellers Biergarten in the Volksgarten, Volksgartenstr. 27, 50677 Cologne
When? 19 November–20 December 2025
Wed–Fri 5–10 pm, Sat 3–10 pm
On Sunday of Remembrance (23 November) 3–8 pm.
5. Heavenue Cologne: glitter, glamour and all things pink at Friesenplatz
Heavenue Cologne is the perfect spot for anyone who loves their Christmas celebrations pink, glittery and over the top. After being closed for three years – and dearly missed – the market finally returns to Friesenplatz in 2025. And yes, there’s plenty of mulled wine here, served in a huge “Glühwein House” where you can even reserve a table in advance. But you’ll also find a whole range of treats you wouldn’t expect at a Christmas market.
On the menu are things like matcha drinks, champagne, savoury donuts, hemp bread and much more – everything but ordinary! And on the big stage, there’s a daily programme of shows and performances.
Where? Friesenplatz / corner of Limburger Str., 50672 Cologne
When? 17 November–23 December 2025
Mon–Thu 12–10 pm, Fri 12–11 pm, Sat 11 am–11 pm, Sun 11 am–10 pm
